Portsmouth's Express FM - Serving Your City for 20 Years
Portsmouth’s Express FM is excited to officially launch Express20 - a year-long celebration marking its 20th birthday on 20th March 2026!
Founded in 2006, Express FM was created to give Portsmouth its own dedicated radio station - one that would celebrate the city’s creators and educators as well as its cultural diversity and community spirit.
Co-Founder Cheryl Buggy (pictured with fellow Co-Founder Chris Carnegy) said: “To me it’s amazing that our little idea is now 20 years old! We felt strongly when we applied for Express FM's licence that Portsmouth was an amazing city, bursting with talent and potential and that it deserved its own dedicated radio station. We have focused on celebrating that, year-on-year, with the help of hundreds of volunteers. And here we are 20 years on, one of the most successful and long-standing community stations in the UK. I feel very proud!”
As part of the Express20 celebrations, Express FM has lots planned for the rest of the year, including special programming, events and opportunities for the community to get involved.
To launch the anniversary celebrations, we today unveil the first in a series of "Top 20" features.
From today - the 20th day of the first month in our 20th year - we invite you to submit the best photographs of Portsmouth taken at any point over the last 20 years.
The selected images will help tell the story of our city - which itself marks its centenary this year with Portsmouth100 - and will form a key part of the Express20 celebrations, reflecting Portsmouth’s people, places and defining moments.
