Gunwharf Quays supports UK’s first accessible shopping day

Gunwharf Quays has signed up to support Purple Tuesday, the UK’s first accessible shopping day designed to make shopping more inclusive for disabled people.

On Tuesday 13th November Gunwharf Quays will be offering a quite hour between 10am-11am, where music inside the centre will be turned off and lights will be dimmed to a lower level where possible. Stores will also offer clearer paths between stock displays making it easier for disabled visitors to move around.

The nation-wide initiative aims to recognise and understand the challenges customers with disabilities may face and encourage businesses to take steps towards making shopping an experience that everyone can enjoy.

Yvonne Clay, Senior Marketing Manager at Gunwharf Quays, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting the disability organisation Purple with the launch of its first-ever accessible shopping day. Purple Tuesday helps to highlight where we can improve our offer for our disabled customers and we hope many will join us during our quiet hour on Tuesday.

“Our staff across the centre have also received training for us to better understand how we can be helpful, and how we can become more confident and inclusive when interacting with our disabled customers.”
