Pompey appoint Danny Cowley as First Team Boss

The 42-year-old will lead the Blues until the end of the season.

Pompey have appointed Danny Cowley as their new manager, on a deal until the end of the season.

The 42-year-old has signed a short term deal with the Blues which will see him take charge until the end of the 2020/21 campaign, less than a week after Kenny Jackett was relieved of his duties as Portsmouth manager.

Danny will be helped by his brother and long-term assistant Nicky Cowley.

Previous employers include Concord Rangers, Braintree Town and Lincoln City, though both Danny and Nicky Cowley were most recently holding the post at Huddersfield Town in the Championship, but they were sacked on July 19th, 2020, just two days after securing the club's survival from relegation.

The Cowley Brothers made a name for themselves whilst at Lincoln City, guiding the Imps from non-league to League One in the space of just three years. During that surge up the English football pyramid, Lincoln won the 2016/17 National League title, the 2017/18 EFL Trophy and the 2018/19 League Two crown.

They will be in the dugout to oversee operations of tomorrow's game at home to Ipswich Town.

You can listen in to Danny Cowley's first game in charge tomorrow afternoon from 12 - Kick-off at Fratton Park is 1pm.

Jake Smith will be back with Ryan Stillwell and Sam Stone to discuss Cowley's appointment and preview this weekend's game against the Tractor Boys when The Football Hour returns, this evening (Friday March 19th) from 6!
