Concert Planned To Celebrate Club's 125th Anniversary

The Portsmouth Philharmonic Orchestra

The premiere of the 'Pompey Overture' will be performed by the Portsmouth Philharmonic Orchestra this Sunday.

Taking place at the Church of the Resurrection in Drayton, the 'Pompey Overture' is a short piece of orchestral music created to commemorate Portsmouth Football Club's 125th anniversary. The score is composed by Hugh Carpenter, conductor of the Portsmouth Philharmonic.

The concert with begin at 3pm on Sunday, the 10th of December and attendees are invited to wear club shirts and/or scarves to bring colour to the event, which will see Blues legend Alan Knight MBE in attendance.

A raffle will be held with a replica shirt signed by the Pompey squad up for grabs for one lucky winner!

Tickets for the concert are priced at £10 for adults with accompanied children able to go for free, available via the orchestra's ticketing partner Skiddle and on the door too.

Proceeds from ticket sales will go to Pompey In The Community and, with tickets selling fast, those interested are advised to book their tickets in advance to avoid disappointment.

As well as the special overture, the orchestra will also be performing Mendelssohn's Herbides Overture, Bizet's L'Arlesienne Suite No. 2 and Schubert's fifth symphony in Bb Major.

Colin Farmery, who chairs the club's 125th anniversary steering committee and his wife Di Lloyd, chair of the orchestra and player of the cello, have both been speaking to Express FM ahead of the event.
