Home Instead Portsmouth recognised by Solent NHS Trust for their dedication to dementia friendly spaces

Helen Brown director of Home Instead 'thrilled' to be recognised

Imagine you’ve gone to the shops, but you’ve forgotten what you went there for. Now you’ve forgotten what the card machine is. Navigating the world with dementia can be scary at times, but Home Instead Portsmouth has been working hard to make public spaces more dementia-friendly.

Home Instead is the only social care provider to be partnered with Parkinson's UK and has been making waves in their field and has received the Princess Royal Trainer Awards for End of Life Care and Dementia Care. It’s their mission to help rebuild family relationships, carefully matching their care professionals to their clients. This way of working improves their relationships with their clients, as well as allowing them to reconnect with their family after receiving tailored support.

From free dementia awareness workshops delivered to Gunwharf Quays and Portsmouth Football Club, to reformatting GP surgery floorplans, Helen and her team have been busy spreading awareness about dementia care all over Portsmouth. Helen Brown director of Home Instead said ‘I’m so thrilled that Home Instead Portsmouth have been recognised by Solent NHS Trust for our dedication to making public spaces more dementia friendly. We firmly believe in rebuilding family relationships and providing client-centred social care to improve the lives of those we serve across Portsmouth. To further support our local community at this tricky time, not only have we widened our capacity to care by recruiting likeminded people who share in our mission, but we have developed vouchers to support people through this Christmas period and up to the end of January. Please do use these with people within your own communities if you think that we can be of help.

We continue to read of the pressures of our local hospitals and GPs – we are here to help. Please do call us as we will always do what we can to support. Thank you for your support as we continue to create a dementia-safe community and continue our mission to drive forward the highest quality care within Portsmouth.’
